Based on archives, some of which have been previously unpublished, memories of his grandson Yves de Gaulle, enriched with testimonies from historians, this film recounts chronologically the conditions of General de Gaulle's return to power in 1958. We discover how General de Gaulle proved to be an outstanding political strategist, knowing how to take advantage of the climate of terror in Algeria and relying on the army to challenge the dying institutions of the Fourth Republic. The strength of the film remains the astonishing archives, including those of May 13, 1958 in Algiers, where in reality everything played out to allow the General to return to power.
