Lyrics: Verse 1 You are the author The beginning and the end You are the writer Every story you began Verse 2 You don’t abandon The work of Your hands You are Creator Of good and perfect plans Chorus You always finish what you start Keep of my heart Complete your work in me Verse 3 You are a fire Refining me to the end From Glory to glory Until you come again Bridge Every story penned with promise Every journey traced with goodness He has not forgotten, still my God is sovereign Every season he will be found If he was faithful then, he will be faithful now He has not forgotten, still my God is sovereign Song Story: “Keeper Of My Heart” started as a spontaneous chorus that Lauren sang in the prayerroom several years ago. And in the process of writing for Lauren’s solo debut EP, while we were still dating, we took that chorus and began to write the song. It actually was probably the first song that we ever wrote together on, and I can still remember sitting on that kitchen counter with a guitar singing through the song together. A couple months ago, we came back to it, after the song had sat on the shelf for years. It felt like the right time, and we wrote the bridge and finished the song. This song is written around the theme of God, as the Author and Perfecter of our faith, and Philippians 1:6 that says “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” We serve and worship a good Father who writes the best stories. Tim Keller once said “if we knew what God knows, we would ask exactly for what He gives.” Even now in the midst of the unprecedented times we find ourselves in, we see the evidence again of His perfect leadership, that the Lord can redeem any situation, and that if we look for it, we can find His goodness in every season. He is sovereign, in everyone's story, still sitting on His throne, and from that place intimately guiding and loving us. The struggle is not in His power to turn a situation for good, or re-write a story, the struggle is in us choosing to trust his processes, and our willingness to be refined, shaped, and matured. We pray this song encourages you once again to trust Him in His Sovereignty, to set Your eyes on Him once again in the midst of the process and all that feels “unfinished”, and worship Him for the Great Writer that He is.
