Bits (Part 2 - The Lifter Bit)

What is the LIFTER BIT? The lifter bit works like a snaffle in that it has 1:1 pressure, but it also adds poll pressure. This makes it a great transition between a snaffle and a leverage bit. The lifter prepares the horse to be finished. Use the lifter like the snaffle and go back and work the foundational exercises to get softness and control. Move the shoulders, hips, and ribcage. Pick up to a trot and a lope and ask the horse to be soft in all gaits. Begin to use your hands one-handed like you would with a leverage bit, and go back and make corrections as needed like you would in a snaffle - these two ways of being able to use the bit are what make it a fantastic transition.
