When it comes to Japanese animation, Stop Motion has always been a genre that has been largely ignored in the country. Today I want to highlight the many incredible films of one such filmmaker in the country who has produced some of the best stop motion films of all time, that being Kihachiro Kawamoto. Spanning ten short films and three features, the filmography of Kawamoto is one of the most legendary in the history of the genre, so join me as we take a look at Japan's Greatest Stop Motion Animator. Huge shout out to writer Cathy Hotes and her incredible articles analyzing many of Kawamoto's films, they're a must read for further insights on his filmography: https://www.nishikata-eiga.com/search... Chapters: 0:00 - Opening 3:35 - Origins 6:02 - Hanaori (1968) 8:46 - Anthropo-Cynical Farce (1970) 9:59 - Oni/The Demon (1972) 12:17 - Travel/The Trip (1973) 13:40 - A Poet's Life (1974) 15:39 - Dojoji Temple (1976) 18:14 - House of Flame (1979) 19:45 - Rennyo and His Mother (1981) 20:43 - NHK Puppet Shows (1982-1988) 21:37 - Self-Portrait (1988) 22:33 - To Shoot Without Shooting (1988) 24:49 - Briar Rose/The Sleeping Beauty (1990) 27:28 - The Restaurant of Many Orders (1991) 31:18 - Hiatus/Li Po: The Poet (1991-2003) 33:21 - Winter Days (2003) 35:17 - The Book of the Dead (2005) 38:36 - Retirement/Death/Conclusion Usually I include a tracklist for my videos, but since most of the music in the video are directly from Kawamoto's films, I feel it's a bit redundant to list them, though this video also features music from a variety of video games like Animal Crossing, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Live A Live, Final Fantasy VI, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Hagane, and Final Fantasy V.
