Clips from the 1927 movie "My Best Girl" set to Lucy Rose's "Shiver". Be warned! There are spoilers for the movie in the video. This video is a wedding anniversary gift to the two stars of the movie: Mary Pickford and Charles "Buddy" Rogers. They met on the set, but couldn't marry until ten years later, after Mary's divorce from Douglas Fairbanks was finalized. The engagement of 45-year old Mary and 33-year old Buddy was covered all throughout the media - even Clark Gable predicted that they wouldn't last long. They wound up lasting 42 years, staying together until Mary died in 1979. Though their scandal-free story is often lost in the shadow of the tumultuous (albeit passionate) Pickford-Fairbanks marriage, Buddy Rogers gave Mary the love and stability that she deeply wanted - and needed - but had never received from a husband. She once wrote, "While I never seriously considered suicide at that time [her divorce, and the deaths of her siblings and mother] I will say this: more than anything or anyone else Buddy gave me back my desire to live." She even once referred to him as "the man of my girlhood vision." As for Buddy, he would give up the benefits of touring with his orchestra to remain by her side, especially during the trying times of her health issues. They supported each other through thick and thin, and even while they ran into conflict like every other couple, they overcame it all and maintained a happy, loving marriage until the very end. So, here's to one of the sweetest movies ever made, and the even sweeter story that began behind the scenes! I don't own anything related to the movie or the song. I wasn't sure which song to use, actually, but this one seemed to fall into place and I hope that you like it, too. I've also had to upload this a few days early, since I'll be away on their real anniversary and I won't have my computer to upload it. Forgive me. :) Thank you for watching! Please enjoy! And as a quick footnote: yes, that is a very young Carole Lombard at 1:26!
