In this explore, we are in the Wiltshire countryside revisiting an old favorite and well known mine. We explored this right at the start of the channel. 3-years on, we are back for an update visit! The location is called Swan Mine, also known as Kingsdown Quarry. It’s a relatively small Bath Stone mine and began its operations in the 18th century. The mine was in use up until 1932. It was the last mine operational in the UK to remove stone by horse and cart. If you look closely in the video, you can still see the original hoof marks, along with kart tracks! A well preserved wooden crane is hidden within the mines depths. Records from 1896 show there were just 13 people working the mine, which is significantly less than other mines operating nearby. At least two miners are known to have unfortunately been killed by collapses whilst working the mine. The mine is open for public view, however always be safe and responsible for your own safety. During this explore, we actually enter through an entrance that we never knew existed!
