This record marked a departure in style for the band who were able to assert their artistic ambitions as a result of ever increasing commercial success. It also marked the first collaboration between the band and the guru of ambient music, Brian Eno, although ‘Pride’ is more akin to the go-ahead rockers of previous albums such as War (1983) with its dense, driving bassline.
