Hey, everyone! Thank you all for continuing to subscribe to my channel and watch my videos! Here's a nighttime timelapse from my view looking East from the Lima Ramp Control Tower of a few dozen airplanes landing at ORD...you won't see too many actual airplanes, but rather their landing lights as they line up to land at O'Hare on Runways 27R, 27L, and 28C (from left to right). Remember, per FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rules and regulations, there's at least a 3-mile gap in horizontal separation between aircraft that's strictly enforced by Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) both locally at O'Hare Tower (ORD ATCT) and at local, off-airport air traffic control facilities such as TRACON (N90) and Chicago Center (ZAU). With that in mind, if there's 5 airplanes lined up, the last one is at least 15 miles out, or more - 6 airplanes = 18 miles, 7 = 21, and so on and so forth. I often find myself staring at the radar screen and seeing ORD arrivals lined up far out over Lake Michigan when we're in a West Flow runway configuration - such as in this video. It's even more amazing zooming out of the local airspace and seeing traffic lined up as far as Nebraska, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania, all heading here. When we have good to great weather, clear skies, and no precipitation, the airport is operating at its max efficient capacity which is a 114 arrival rate...that's a maximum of 114 aircraft arriving per hour, every hour Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoyed the video!
