We started this complete refit of a 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 in December 2007, a boat I bought for $1 after being told it "just needs engines and a paint job." Well...that was an understatement. I gutted the whole thing: gas engines, fuel tanks, bulkheads, interior walls, cabinets, and I had the aluminum hull and decks sandblasted. I repowered to Cummins 6CTA engines and new fuel tanks, but I kept all of the original Chris Craft gauges and controls, which I had restored and rechromed. After welding on a new aluminum aft deck enclosure, we had a paint crew fair and paint the boat using AwlGrip Matterhorn white paint. I coated the interior of the hull, decks, and cabin top with spray foam insulation. Then I replaced all of the glass with new tinted tempered glass and started rebuilding the interior using new mahogany plywood and lightweight Tricel honeycomb panels with mahogany veneers. Finally, in July 2023, we splashed the boat after 15 years in Deale, MD, and took it to our new home port near Port Tobacco on the Potomac. This video shows how that trip went.
