Vertigo Series - (VRT) Balance and Gait Assessment

Vertigo is a broad term that can describe symptoms of feeling the illusion of self movement, movement of the surroundings, spinning, tilting, falling, or even being pulled in a direction. Vertigo treatment often includes an approach called vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), as the vestibular system is often involved when vertigo symptoms are present. A common vestibular disorder symptom is imbalance, or the general feeling of "unsteadiness." First, I cover how to determine how well someone uses proprioceptive, visual, and vestibular cues to help them maintain balance. Then, I go over options for assessing gait as well as outcome measures that are relevant to the vestibular population.
