In this videos you will see how I set up my trail cameras and how I pick a location that overlooks a deer scrape. Looking for signs of a deer scrape, and or licking branch just takes a little time and patience. Once I have located a deer scrape, I find a tree that will be close enough but not too far away to capture the action. Here I found and located a perfect Florida white tail deer scrape and licking branch, deep in the Ocala National Forest in Ocala, Florida. Hiking in the forest and locating a nice white tail deer buck scrape, and then setting up my trail cameras in the area is just part of the experience. There is no deer hunting in my vocabulary, although I do not condemn it, it's just not for me. I really just enjoy filming nature and seeing what comes along and then being able to share it with you all. And nothing makes me feel better then to capture a big Florida buck on video. Especially coming back to the same tree to mark his territory. This video was taken in the Ocala National Forest last deer season 2020. I had to adjust the Browning trail camera, but in the end it all worked out. A scrape is a bare patch of ground shaped like an oval or triangle with an overhanging branch. To make scrapes, deer paw away leaves and debris exposing the soil, which acts as a host for scent they leave behind. They mouth and rub their foreheads on the overhanging branch which also holds scent. The overhanging licking branches are the main focus of communication and are scent marked with saliva and forehead, pre-orbital and nasal glands, while the scrape is scent marked with urine and interdigital glands located between the hooves. Despite the fact that many mature bucks check scrapes under the cover of darkness, hunting scrapes after a rain could increase your chances of crossing paths with a big whitetail buck. Bucks create scrapes to stake claim to “their” area. One of the greatest ways whitetails communicate with each other is through the scent they leave behind. Throughout the year bucks are constantly marking their territory with scent, and scraping behavior is one of the chief ways they do it. Though bucks will work a scrape’s overhanging licking branch throughout the year their most aggressive scraping is done from October to December, when testosterone levels are highest. In most cases a buck begins the scraping process by rubbing his forehead, preorbital, and nasal glands on the branch and in some cases will actually lick and chew on the overhanging branch. Once done, most bucks will paw the leaves and other debris from the ground under the branch, then urinate into the pawed out earth. The process usually takes less than two minutes, but during this time a buck will leave liberal amounts of scent behind. Scraping, like rubbing, allows a buck to make his presence known by dispensing scent throughout his area. Once mature bucks shed their velvet, their testosterone levels begin to rise and at hubs of heavy doe traffic they begin ground scraping activity. As the rut approaches and testosterone levels begin to peak, scrape activity becomes much more intense. While older bucks are responsible for opening up most scrape areas as the rut approaches, 1 1/2-year-old subordinate bucks also take part in scrape activity. 🔥 MY SOCIAL MEDIA: ➤ Instagram: ➨ / bobbywummerphotography ➤ FaceBook: ➨ / bobbywummerphotography ➤ YouTube: ➨ / @bobbywummerphotography9798 🌟 PURCHASE MY PHOTOS: SmugMug: ➨ https://bobbywummer.smugmug.com/ 🎥 TRAIL CAMERAS I USE & RECOMMEND: ➤ Browning Trail Cameras: ➨ https://browningtrailcameras.com/ ➤ AlphaCams: ➨ https://alphacamhunt.com/ ➤ Bushnell Trail Cameras: ➨ https://www.bushnell.com/trail-camera... 📫 CONTACT ME/BUSINESS ONLY: ➤ E-Mail: ➨ Pierrat103@aol.com ✅ FTC Legal Disclaimer - Some links found in the description box of my videos may be affiliate links, meaning I will make commission on sales you make through my link.
