Unlike the bokashi cake, which takes some time to be produced, the bokashi liquid normally becomes available to you a few days after initiating your bokashi composting. If you remember, from the PROCESS phase of the #bokashiloop, the exact amount of bokashi juice varies greatly depending on the type of organic waste you collect. However, whenever the bokashi fermentation is going as it should, you will need to drain the accumulated liquid through the tap at the bottom of the bokashi composter. As such, it helps to know what to do with it. As the title suggests, the bokashi liquid is an excellent natural fertilizer substitute. However, after collecting it from your bokashi bin, you need to dilute it before using it to water your plants with it. The best ratio for watering your plants once a week or less is 1:200. This means you need to take one deciliter of collected bokashi juice and dilute it with 20 liters of water. Once you have your solution ready, you can water your plants. Just like with water, it is best to avoid pouring the liquid on top of plants. Instead, aim to water the soil at the bottom of your plants’ shoots. That way, the nutrients will get to the roots. Let’s also point out that you can store bokashi liquid for up to 14 days or even more. However, for it to last that long, make sure to use an airtight container - any glass bottle will do - and store it in a cold, dark spot. A fridge is the best option. But what if you don’t have plants? Well, just like with the bokashi cake, you can also find others who’d benefit from using your bokashi juice. After all, keep in mind that it is a valuable resource full of nutrients and beneficial microorganisms. Or you can just watch the next video and see how you can benefit from the liquid, even though you don’t have plants.
