Which Path Best Aligns with Your Creative Vision, Financial Strategy, and Community Impact? The second module in ArtsBuild Ontario’s SPRE for Arts Spaces series, this dynamic 1.5-hour webinar will dive into the critical considerations for Ontario-based arts and culture organizations looking to navigate their options for space acquisition. Whether you're exploring owning, renting, or leveraging community land trusts, this module will equip you with the knowledge to make informed, strategic decisions. Rodney Wilts from Theia Partners will lead a deep dive into the nuances of ownership and leasing, including exploring powerful partnerships with developers, ensuring value alignment, and unlocking the right financing models for your organizational needs. Afterward, Jane O-Brien Davis from the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts (CNCLT) will guide you through the innovative world of community land trusts, offering insight into creative financing solutions such as planning for repayment, community bonds, and essential risk mitigation strategies. The session will conclude with a moderated Q&A. This webinar will be recorded and posted to ArtsBuild Ontario’s YouTube and website. Presentation materials will be available after the webinar in English and French. Closed captioning provided. About the presenters: Rodney Wilts describes himself as a values-based real estate developer. He is currently developing a number of projects in the National Capital Region with Theia Partners, including a joint venture development with Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, and a workforce housing fund focused on maintaining affordability while decarbonizing older apartment buildings. He’s best known for his work on the world-class Zibi project. Zibi is Canada’s first One Planet Community, transforming a formerly contaminated industrial site into a showpiece sustainable, mixed-use community, powered by a zero-carbon district energy system. Rodney started his career as an environmental lawyer with West Coast Environmental Law. He founded Canada’s first green building supply company and was formerly a partner with Windmill Developments. When not creating better buildings and communities, Rodney can be found paddling Quebec whitewater rivers, sailing, or skiing in Gatineau Park. Jane O’Brien Davis is a Community Land Trust Specialist with the Canadian Network of Community Land Trust. She has a background in Urban Planning and Critical Geography. With the Network, Jane supports the development of resources for organizational capacity building, facilitates knowledge mobilization, leads community engagement, and provides technical assistance for community land trusts throughout Canada. As part of her role, Jane promotes the growth and development of BIPOC-led community land trusts. Jane holds a BA in Urban Studies from McGill University and a MSc.
