Sky News contributor Chris Uhlmann says the Labor government is “probably right” to investigate negative gearing. The federal government could be exploring its options ahead of possible changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax. An anonymous government source says Labor has sought advice from Treasury on the possible changes which it could take to the next election. “I think it’s more of a symbolic effect that it might have,” Mr Uhlmann said. “It is that we are looking to do something quite dramatic on housing, so to try and at least break through the public consciousness on that.”
