Stay tuned for that 😉) Bit more backstory: It was initially Kevin that wanted to do this one (which makes sense - it IS incredibly sick on guitar. Lol). I wasn't sure if it would make for the most exciting drum video (absolutely no disrespect to the legend that is Paul Mazurkiewicz - just isn't the most T3CH song on drums). So I thought, at least - because in all honesty it was QUITE challenging! For one, I didn't even reeeally do it justice... Paul's kind of known for doing this thing where, when doing a thrash beat, his cymbal hand kinda does something more in-between 8th's & triplets (at least, it's something especially noticeable on some of the older cannibal records), but his snare hand & kicking stay perfectly straight/on beat. TBH, I think it's just a result of fatigue, or a given song just being too fast, because some of those types of parts are indeed QUITE fast in Cannibal's music. But it sort of became part of his sound - & frankly, is virtually impossible to recreate/emulate exactly like he does it (which is low key kinda sick!). So when Kevin requested that the gang do this song, I was like "Lol how tf am I going to make this work?". In the end, I opted to just avoid it altogether (LOL). But the tempo(s) were also too fast to do the straight 8th note the whole time (for me, at least). So I just broke all the thrash beats up a bit on the cymbal hand (& even then, it was still quite challenging!). Turned out cool, but surely isn't as cool as the original. Ultimately, Paul's feel for those types of parts is one of the many reasons that Cannibal is truly legendary. Additionally, the album version of this song was almost certainly not recorded to a click, so I had to create a tempo map from scratch. This also proved to be quite a challenge to play along to, so yeah. Maybe this isn't the MOST tech song (on drums), but it's still pretty dang challenging (& generally sick), nonetheless! I've mentioned in other video descriptions (&/or a few random posts here & there) that things have been a bit rough for me in recent times. That hasn't really changed, unfortunately. The last 8 months have been some of the most challenging, exhausting, emotionally draining, & busiest months of my life. Maybe I will elaborate in more detail at some point, maybe not. But for the majority of the last year, simply getting through a day without breaking down or falling apart the moment I'm alone is an accomplishment. It's been the longest & most intense bout of depression I've experienced. On top of that, drums haven't brought me the same release from these emotions as they have at every other point in my life - something that I don't really understand, & is upsetting to me in it of itself. I don't really know what to make of that right now, but I guess my point is: When I do have a small bit of free time/extra mental energy, making videos has felt harder than ever. Just being honest. I hope things change soon, because I'm becoming increasingly exhausted by life and everything in it. But I know it won't change unless I work to change it - both my state of mind, & my current situation. So I will continue trying to do so. Sorry to get real, but it's the truth.
