"Silver Fern March" by Gary Daverne - International Accordion Orchestra - Sydney

AATA (Australian Accordion Teachers Association) celebrating 20 years of International Accordion Competitions and Festivals. Held on the 7th/8th of June, 2014 at the Marconi Club Sydney. Gala Concert opening Massed Accordion Orchestra, combined of members of Accordion Society Australia, Australian Accordion Teachers Association, New Zealand Accordion Association, including top class competitors and guest musicians from Italy, Croatia, Russia, China, United States. Under the direction of internationally renowned entertainer Lionel Reekie from New Zealand, Massed Orchestra performed: "Artist's Life" by Johann Strauss Jr., "Syncopated Clock" by Leroy Anderson and premiered a new composition "Silver Fern March" by Mr. Gary Daverne from New Zealand, who was present at the concert. Orchestra of 56 members, ranging from very young beginners to advanced international competitors had only two short rehearsals before the concert. Special guest Mirco Ptarini of "Scandalli" Accordions from Italy, Arseniy Strokolov winner of international top class, Dino Kocic Australian and South Pacific Accordion Champion did solo performances as well as taking part in the Orchestra. Audience also enjoyed solo performances of younger competitors and was entertained by Lionel Reekie and Maurice Jones. ASA NSW Ensemble and Melbourne Accordion Ensemble performed several pieces as well. Performing in the Massed Orchestra, there was a number of festival guests very well known in the accordion world, dedicated to promoting accordion and spreading love for accordion music globally. Kevin Friedrich from United States, ambassador and ex president of Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), also performed in the Massed Orchestra.
