[Transcript] Dr. Juan Viles-Gonzalez: I am Dr. Juan Viles-Gonzalez. I'm a cardiac electrophysiologist at Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute. I'm a cardiac electrophysiologist. I'm a cardiologist that specialize in the electrical system of the heart. And the heart, like a house, has a plumbing and an electrical system. Cardiac electrophysiologists focus treatment on the electrical system. Essentially arrhythmias, which is the main focus of our attention, are disturbances, are problems in the electrical system. In a way you could think of this as a short circuit, like an electrical short circuit. Our approach is to really try and understand what's the main complaint and what's really affecting the patient's quality of life. Most of the procedures that we do in cardiac electrophysiology are elective procedures. So we spend a lot of time in the office trying to understand what's really affecting the patient's quality of life. Empathy is key, is probably more than 50% of what we do. Obviously spend a lot of time explaining the disease processes and the treatments that we have. But half the problem is what the patient feels about that particular problem and the repercussions of that problem in their family, in their workplace.
