Located in south-eastern Brandenburg, the city of Cottbus opened its first tram line in 1903, with more routes opening in the following years. In 1978, the manufacturer CKD Tatra started delivering articulated KT4D class trams, which replaced the older trams until 1991. In the mid-1990s, some KT4Ds got equipped with a low-floor midsection (KTNF6 class) - a cost-effective solution and an example for other cities. Some of these trams were modernized once again starting in 2011. Almost the entire fleet is equipped with colorful advertisements. The delivery of new low-floor trams, which will probably replace the non-modernized KTNF6 cars, started in 2024. The network is connecting some quite diverse districts, from the old city center to massive residential zones with soviet-era apartment blocks. The line to the depot, which is only served a few times per day, is passing through a forest and some meadows.
