Sabbath Sermon: "Spiritual Identity. In Search of the true Image" Presented by: Pr. Vitalii Shevchenko “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:13-15 We, as Seventh-day Adventists, have long known who we are not. We are not Catholic. We don’t follow the Pope, pray to saints, or keep Sunday. We are not Muslim. We don’t follow the Five Pillars or read the Qur’an. We are not Jehovah’s Witnesses, not Latter-day Saints, not Pentecostal — not this, not that. And maybe that’s part of the problem. In knowing so clearly what we are not, we might have lost clarity about who we really are. Not just as a denomination, but as a church. Not just as a church, but as people. As human beings. As citizens of the world. God’s world. As image-bearers. We’ve drawn lines in the sand. We’ve built fences. But what’s at the centre? What is it that we so desperately try to defend? Today, we return to the question behind all questions: identity. Who are we? And how do we know? Pr. Vitalii Shevchenko *********************************************************************************** Prayer Requests: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
