The brakes on the R53 Mini Cooper S aren't the highlight, but with some work and new parts, they can be brought up to the level of the rest of the car. After driving the 350Z and the E39, I was very critical of the how the brakes felt when I first drove it, but I knew there was a recipe to easily remedy this. I was hoping that most of the issue was old hardware that maybe wasn't a great brand. I went to the brands I knew and decided to try some new ones as well. After pads, rotors, and new fluid, the brakes still needed a bit more work. I decided to replace the old brake lines with a new set of TechnaFit stainless steel lines and add some custom DIY brake ducts while I was in there. The whole process was pretty straight forward, and all in, a full brake refresh was less than $500. I am much happier with the pedal feel and stopping level of the car.
