Running out of F’s to give (1979) 🔔 Subscribe to AI For The Culture's channel: https://bit.ly/AIFTCYT About The Artist: Charles Davis was the kind of man who could sing you a love ballad so smooth you’d forget he just borrowed $20 from you and wasn’t planning to pay it back. Born in 1947 in Newark, New Jersey, Charles came up in the church choir, where his silky baritone made him a hometown favorite. By the mid-70s, he was touring as an opening act for big-name soul stars, but it was his 1979 single “Running Out of F- to Give” that made him a household name — or at least a name whispered at the family cookout after a few drinks. The inspiration came one Tuesday morning when Charles’s upstairs neighbor decided to start practicing tap dancing at 6:30 AM. Already hungover, Charles stomped up the stairs to complain. On his way back down, Charles stubbed his toe, got a past-due notice in the mail, and stepped in something suspicious his cat left on the carpet. He sat on his couch, sighed deeply, and muttered to himself, “Man… I’m running out of f-‘s to give.” Right there, he grabbed his notepad and started scribbling lyrics. The song became an anthem for anyone fed up with bills, bad relationships, or nosy landlords. Despite some radio stations refusing to say the title on air, it climbed the R&B charts. He wore the song’s title like a badge of honor. In interviews, he’d grin and say, “I didn’t just write it — I lived it.” #aifortheculture #aimusic
