WARATAH - On Awakening

The Band: WARATAH is a Failsworth, Manchester, English Rock Band that was created in 1989 by a group of four mates who where already members of various bands. They joined forces to create this band with a solid well written/rehearsed and polished set of material. The Band's initial goal was to flourish on the support circuit around England performing with a variety of Pop & Rock band's. This particular combination of chemistry & influences from the four of us would yield a sound that would work well for supporting many band's of that time. This track called "On Awakening" was the opening track to their live set. The recording was created from one of their rehearsals on a four track cassette machine by using one SM58 Mic & one SM57 Mic in a splitter box for Sam's Drums, One SM58 Mic for Min's Guitar, Marshall 4+12" cabinet. One D.I for Chad's Bass Amp plus one D.I. for Steve's Guitar Amp. The Vocal's were added and mixed at a later date from a Vocal track recorded at the same time. The band would like to thank Leah for her performance. I'm sure you will agree that it is a pretty good sound for it's day and on four track. I often wonder how good it may have sounded if we gone in a commercial studio, mixed and produced it well, then put it out on vinyl. I think it would still have sounded fresh today. Creating the Video: In creating this video i wanted to capture for posterity the creative passion and energy of each member of the band but had very few artifacts to work with. So i can only compare having to get creative with the visuals to being back in the studio with the lads and a few ideas for writing a song and jamming it through till your happy with the format/arrangement etc. Oh happy days!
