As we conclude the blessed month of Kiahk, we arrive at a powerful and often overlooked moment in Luke 1: the birth of St. John the Baptist and the opening of Zacharias’ mouth. After months of silence, the first words Zacharias proclaims are not complaint, fear, or confusion, but praise: “The Lord is gracious.” In this sermon, we reflect on what it truly means to understand salvation, mercy, and the humility of the Incarnation. Christ enters the lowest place, a manger, not out of necessity, but out of love, to heal humanity from the plague of death and to guide our feet into the path of peace. As we prepare for the Feast of the Nativity, this message challenges us to ask: Is there room for Christ in my heart? Is my life filtered through Him? Am I living as someone who believes I have been delivered? This is a call to move from fear to service, from self-centered living to self-emptying love, and from spiritual exhaustion to renewed peace. May this year be different. May our lives become stars that point others to Christ. ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 – The journey of Kiahk and Luke 1 00:34 – The birth of St. John the Baptist 01:07 – The meaning of the name “John” (The Lord is gracious) 01:40 – Zacharias’ silence and the opening of his mouth 02:17 – Our instinct in hardship: complaint or praise? 02:56 – “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel” – the song of salvation 03:31 – Witnessing the Incarnation within the household 04:30 – Salvation foretold through the prophets 05:06 – Understanding mercy and covenant 05:36 – The humility of God becoming man 06:41 – The Prayer of Reconciliation and the defeat of death 07:11 – “For the Christian, there is no death” 08:12 – What are we truly living for? 09:12 – The movement of the Incarnation: self-emptying love 09:51 – Delivered from our enemies: do we believe it? 10:49 – Seeing the Babe in the manger as victory 11:23 – Serving God without fear 11:53 – Is there room in your heart for Christ? 12:18 – First fruits: how do we begin our day? 13:20 – Filtering every decision through Christ 13:52 – Light for those who sit in darkness 14:44 – A new year, a new beginning, a path of peace 15:11 – The weekly Pentecost in the Divine Liturgy 15:45 – “Lord Jesus, come and dwell in me” 16:15 – Becoming stars that point others to Christ 🔖 Hashtags #FeastOfTheNativity #KiahkReflections #MakingRoomForChrist #OrthodoxSermon #PathOfPeace #Incarnation #SalvationAndMercy #StarsPointingToChrist
