Mine was dirty, paint worn, had a bent tow hook and a slightly skewed cabin. I gave it a repaint in glorious Tamiya Park Green and tidied up the dented plastic rollers. The model was in the Matchbox 1-75 series from 1962 to 1967 but it wasn't the first incarnation of the Aveling Barford Road Roller. Its roots go back to 1953 and THE original Matchbox, the 1A Road Roller. This was the first Matchbox model in the 1-75 series. That became the 1B in 1956 which was a downsized version of the 1D with cast metal rollers, and brown and gold trim. Then, it marginally increased in size two years later, this time losing the trim before the 1D came along four years later. Aveling-Barford were an English heavy equipment and machinery manufacturer that formed in 1934. They became the largest manufacturer of road rollers in Britain but ceased to exist by 1988.
