Many of us have made and enjoyed the original TKOR mini metal backyard foundry, but it isn't the most durable option for some. Also, many of the metal melting furnaces you can purchase online cut costs by not using refractory cement over the kaowool/ceramic insulation. When exposed like this, the furnace heat causes ceramic fibers to be released in the air which is dangerous for our lungs. In this video I build an affordable backyard metal melting furnace with refractory cement, ceramic fiber insulation, and basic tools. I wanted a lid that didn't have to be removed and placed elsewhere in the middle of casting, so I made a simple hinge system that does not require any welding.
