Last year I was excited about the S20 Ultra, and…let’s just say I don’t think it lived up to the Ultra name. So I was skeptical with the S21 Ultra, but Samsung proved me so very wrong, because this year the S21 Ultra is Ultra in all the right ways. The overview of Samsung’s vision of it’s most premium smartphone offering for 2021, the Galaxy S21 Ultra features five cameras, highlighted by a 108 megapixel sensor, two telephoto cameras, 100x space zoom, and 40 megapixel selfies. There’s up to 16GB of RAM on board, and legitimate all-day battery life, even with the inclusion and usage of 5G. That’s all packed into a body that houses a 6.8-inch 120Hz Quad HD display with an adaptive refresh rate and in-display fingerprint reader…and even that fingerprint reader is improved, as it has a 1.7 times larger surface area when compared to last year’s S20 Ultra. So the name of the game here with the S21 Ultra have been improvement and refinement. This is also the first phone I’m checking out of 2021, alongside the standard Galaxy S21, and this one sets a high bar for all the other competitors out there to follow over the next 11 months. Speaking of refinement, the design this year looks and feels great.
