Day 44 | Numbers 5-6 Now, the Laws stipulated in Leviticus are starting to take effect. Uncleanliness of any kind will warrant expulsion from the camp. Any person with any skin disease or bodily discharge of any kind is to be driven out of the camp until they are cleansed. A woman who is unfaithful or is suspected by her husband to be unfaithful is to be tested before the priest. The priest is to carry out the “test” for unfaithfulness by making the woman recite a curse upon herself if she is unfaithful. She will drink bitter waters, and the curse of barrenness and swelling of the abdomen will befall her if she were unfaithful; otherwise, no harm will come on her. The Nazarite law is also mentioned in this text and will take effect on anyone who wishes to dedicate themselves before God. This dedication is voluntary, but it will carry certain rules and regulations of cleanliness before God. Wine or anything from the grapevine and the razor shall not come near the faithful until they have relieved themselves from the vow of dedication before God. They are to touch no unclean thing – not even come near their dead relative (Father, Mother, sister, or anyone else). The vow of dedication ends when the period lapses, and they shave their hair and burn it before the Lord. God will tell Aaron to bless the Israelites when they come before the priests. A reminder that the Lord wants to bless his people and to walk among them. Numbers 6:24-26 “‘“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ Lesson: God desires holiness amongst His people. He wants to be able to care for and guard his people from the agents of sin. Sin separates us from a loving God. He not only tells us not to sin, but also tells us what sin is and how to deal with it – to purge sin from his presence. Just like the Israelites had to perform a sacrifice for every wrongdoing, be it guilt or jealousy, so it is with us. Christ performed the sacrifice on our behalf so that we may approach God with confidence. There is no other sacrifice left to atone for our sin. What will come is judgment, not sacrifice for sin anymore. Memory Scripture: Hebrews 10:26-27 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
