푸투라 서울(Futura Seoul)은 조선시대 사대부의 생활 터전이었던 북촌 가회동의 유구한 역사를 바탕으로 전통의 맥을 잇는 동시에 미래를 향한 다각적인 시선을 담아내는 예술공간입니다. 라틴어로 미래(Futura)를 뜻하는 이름에서 유추할 수 있듯, 푸투라 서울은 과거에서 현재 그리고 미래를 유연하게 연결하며 진보적이고 다채로운 예술경험을 제공하고자 합니다. 지상 1층부터 3층 규모인 푸투라 서울의 공간은 크게 두 개의 존으로 구분됩니다. 첫 번째 존은 1층 로비와 후원, 2층 전시실과 중정공간, 3층 테라스와 옥상 정원으로 촘촘히 나뉘어 있는 반면, 두 번째 존은 ‘백 개의 시(100 poems)’ 전시 공간이라 불리우는 10.8m 층고의 대형 전시실로 구성되어 두 개의 존이 서로 대비되는 개성적인 공간으로 만들어져 있습니다. 건축은 준지 플래그쉽 스토어 등 아이코닉한 건축 디자인을 진행해 온 한국의 디자인 스튜디오 WGNB 백종환 대표가 디자인했으며, 북촌 한옥마을이 가진 유산을 존중하면서도 현대적이고 미래지향적인 공간을 완성했습니다. 그는 FRAME 어워드, IF 디자인 어워드에서 최고상을 수상하고, 독일디자인위원회가 주최한 아이코닉 어워드에서 ‘올해의 스튜디오’로 선정되는 등 국제적으로도 인정받고 있습니다. Futura Seoul is an art space that continues the tradition based on the long history of Gahoe-dong in Bukchon, which was the living home of noblemen during the Joseon Dynasty, while also capturing a multifaceted perspective toward the future. As can be inferred from the name, which means future (Futura) in Latin, Futura Seoul aims to provide a progressive and diverse art experience by connecting the past, present and future. Futura seoul is divided into two distinct sections. The first section spans the first-floor lobby and courtyard, the second-floor exhibition hall and atrium, and the third-floor terrace and rooftop garden, all closely interconnected. The second section, in contrast, consists of a large exhibition hall with a 10.8m floor height called the ‘100 poems’, creating a unique space where the two zones contrast with each other. The architecture was undertaken by Baek Jonghwan, CEO of WGNB, a Korean design studio that has designed iconic buildings such as the Jun.J flagship store, and completed a modern and future-oriented space while respecting the heritage of Bukchon Hanok Village. His work has earned him prestigious accolades, including FRAME Awards, IF design Awards, and WGNB was named ‘Studio of the Year’ by the German design council's Iconic Awards, earning international recognition.
