【English CC Subtitles】 During my time working in Singapore, there was a day when I had to shoot a video about the Muslim fasting tradition. So, I decided to join my Muslim colleagues in observing the fast. However, during the process, I couldn't endure it any longer and ended up drinking some water. Even when I went to the restroom, I felt a bit uncomfortable. I have immense respect for my Muslim friends who manage to fast for an entire month, especially those who still have to perform physically demanding jobs. Respect! A Day in the Life of a Muslim During Ramadan: 1. Morning (Sahur) The Subuh prayer is usually performed at dawn, and its timing may vary slightly depending on the season (around 5 a.m.). Sahur meals are typically chosen for their energy-rich and slow-releasing qualities to help sustain energy levels throughout the day. The closer Sahur is to the end of Subuh, the better, as it extends energy reserves for as long as possible. Common Sahur foods include oats, whole wheat bread, eggs, milk, dates, and water-rich fruits. 2. Daytime (Fasting) Besides abstaining from food and drink, Muslims also pay extra attention to their behavior, avoiding negative actions to maintain inner purity and peace. Many Muslims use this time to focus on prayer, reading the Quran, and doing good deeds, fostering patience and kindness. 3. Evening (Iftar) The fast is traditionally broken with a date (Kurma) or plain water, symbolizing a gentle way to reawaken the digestive system. Dates are not only a traditional food for breaking the fast but are also rich in natural sugars, providing a quick energy boost. Afterward, Muslims may enjoy a fuller meal, which typically includes rice, meat, and desserts. Iftar is often a warm, social occasion where family and friends gather to share food and spend quality time together. 4. Night (Qiyamullail) This late-night prayer is especially significant during the final ten days of Ramadan, as Muslims seek the blessings of Lailatul Qadr (The Night of Decree). Qiyamullail prayers often include reciting the Quran, reflecting, and repenting, helping Muslims find inner peace and spiritual growth. Actions to Avoid While Fasting: Eating or drinking Smoking Intentionally making oneself vomit Engaging in inappropriate speech or behavior (e.g., lying, cursing, gossiping, insulting others, cheating, or arguing) Marital relations During this period, Muslims are also encouraged to reconcile with others and forgive past wrongdoings to cultivate compassion and tolerance. Additional Notes: If someone accidentally eats or drinks while fasting, as long as it was unintentional, the fast remains valid once they realize their mistake and stop immediately. Those unable to fast due to illness, travel, pregnancy, nursing, or age may be temporarily exempt but are required to make up for the missed fasts later (Qada’) or provide charitable compensation (Fidyah). Muslims are encouraged to complete their missed fasts (Qada’) or provide Fidyah as soon as possible to demonstrate respect for their faith. 0:00 Introduce (Dates Fruit) 0:17 Bazaar Ramadan (Night Market) Bazar Raya Aidilfitri Jalan Taiping Klang https://maps.app.goo.gl/9Vuxb3WjBhcpJ... 6:09 Breaking Fast (Buka Puasa) 10:59 Bazaar Ramadan Sungai Udang Bazar Simpang Empat Sg Udang, Klang https://maps.app.goo.gl/8EZuEZkbczgb6... 11:13 Roast Chicken & Portuguese Egg Tart (Baker's Cottage ) Baker's Cottage Teluk Pulai Klang (巴生直落玻璃麦可思) https://maps.app.goo.gl/vBaNP62zwcW8T... 12:26 Food Time 13:43 Why do Muslims around the world observe Ramadan at different times? 16:13 How do Malaysian Muslims determine the date of Ramadan? ------------------------------------------------ Recommended Playlist: 【Food tour in Selangor】 • 书山探雪兰莪 | Food Tour in Selangor #bazaar #ramadan #bazaarramadhan #muslim #nightmarket #streetfood #malaysia #bazar #ramadhan #shushanfoodtour
