From Research Infrastructure investment to impact |

Research facilities and scientific equipment (often referred to as “Research Infrastructure”) are a key input to any research activity, but they also play a major role in fostering collaboration, attracting the best talent, and driving innovation and economic development. Despite their growing importance, though, there are specific challenges to applying research management best practices and evidence-based decision-making processes to Research Infrastructure: some of these challenges are organizational, others are simply caused by the difficulty of collecting accurate, comprehensive, and current Research Infrastructure data and linking them to research outputs, impacts and outcomes. In this talk, we will show how the University of Bath is using Pure to support the use cases of assessing impact and showcasing Research Infrastructure; in particular, we will present how the #UniversityofBath and Elsevier collaborated on Equipment Monitor, an innovative service that automates the process of linking equipment and research outputs through AI- powered algorithms applied to the full text of publications. We will share what we have learned in the process, what worked well and ideas for further development.
