There is a growing narrative that the United Nations is failing or that it could even be replaced altogether. In this episode of The Warm Talks, I slow the conversation down and look at why that question often misses the point. Not because global institutions are flawless, but because many of the expectations placed on the United Nations ignore how it was actually designed to function. This is a conversation about power, institutions and political will, and about the difference between stopping wars and sustaining a global order where dialogue, coordination and minimum rules still exist. At its core, this episode asks a different question: what happens when there is no shared table left, no common space where states can sit together, disagree, and still talk, even without consensus. The Warm Talks is a space for thoughtful conversations about diplomacy, power, leadership and the world we live in. 00:00 Why the question of replacing the United Nations keeps coming back 00:28 Frustration with the United Nations and global politics 01:05 The UN is not a world government 01:39 The UN can only go as far as member states allow 02:05 The Security Council and the veto problem 03:05 The UN is more than the Security Council 04:36 The international norms we take for granted 06:06 What happens if there is no shared table left
