We all tend to measure ourselves by what we have, who we belong to, or what we accomplish. From humble brags to competing for recognition, our hearts constantly look for reasons to boast. But in Romans 3:27-31, the Apostle Paul dismantles every reason for pride by reminding us that salvation is not earned, but received. Because we are justified by faith apart from works, there is no room for pride. The gospel humbles us, levels us, and redirects our boasting away from ourselves and toward Jesus. In this passage, Paul shows that saving faith is also changing faith. The same grace that saves our souls reshapes how we see ourselves, how we see others, and how we live before God. In this message you’ll learn: Why the gospel completely eliminates pride and boasting How faith reorients our identity away from performance Why the gospel unites all people under one God and one way of salvation How faith helps us see others as image bearers of God who need a Savior Why justification by faith doesn’t abolish the law but fulfills its purpose 00:00 - Introduction: Wrapping up Romans Chapter 3 00:18 - Michael Collins and the "Shadow" of Apollo 11 02:00 - Scripture Reading: Romans 3:27-31 03:13 - Main Idea: Saving Faith is Changing Faith 04:22 - Information vs. Transformation in the Gospel 05:32 - Point 1: Faith Changes Your View of Yourself 06:17 - The Three Boasts: Possessions, People, and Performance 08:08 - Boasting Exposes Your Identity 09:18 - Boasting Expresses Pride 10:46 - Defining Pride: Self-Centeredness vs. Holy Confidence 11:12 - The Origin of Satan: A Study of Isaiah 14 13:06 - Diagnostic Questions: Detecting Pride in Your Life 14:21 - Humility in Conflict and the Power of Apology 15:38 - A Call to Men: Taking Responsibility to Go First 17:17 - The Freedom of Being Overlooked 18:04 - Why God Opposes the Proud (1 Peter 5:5) 21:03 - Redirecting Your Boast to Jesus 22:21 - Point 2: Faith Changes Your View of Other People 22:42 - Historical Context: Conflict in the Roman Church 24:18 - Viewing All People as Image Bearers of God 25:59 - Overcoming Insult and Indifference Toward Others 28:34 - Viewing the Lost World as Sinners in Need of a Savior 29:43 - Viewing the Church as One Body 31:44 - Lesson from the Gospel Tabernacle: The Danger of Division 33:41 - Point 3: Faith Changes Your View of God’s Law 34:15 - The Law as a Mirror and a Map, Not a Ladder 36:31 - What to Do When Change Feels Stalled 38:02 - Hope and Humility: Two Keys to Sanctification 39:25 - Response and Prayer: Humbling Ourselves Before the Lord
