Seventy percent of women in public life have experienced online violence and over forty percent of them have been attacked, abused, or harassed offline in connection with the digital violence directed at them. These statistics from a recent UN Women-published report, titled Tipping Point: The Chilling Escalation of Online Violence Against Women in the Public Sphere, reveal that online violence against women in the public sphere is an escalating threat. This expert panel will dissect the data and discuss how governments, multilateral institutions, and technology companies can take action to address this pressing issue that imperils women’s democratic and civic participation.
