George Floyd death: Demonstrators take to the streets in cities across the U.S.

Protests took place across the U.S. on Friday as more people took up the call for justice in the death of George Floyd, a Black man in Minneapolis, Minnesota who died in police custody on Monday after an officer knelt on his neck for more than seven minutes, until he eventually became unresponsive. The demonstrations saw people march through cities, and gather along sidewalks and in city squares in various cities including Minneapolis, MN, Houston, TX, and Denver, CO. People chanted various slogans, including "I can't breathe," the words spoken by Floyd on the now-infamous viral video, which showed the incident in which the officer had his knee on Floyd's neck. The protests took place throughout the day, including after an arrest and murder charge was laid against the now-former police officer, Derek Chauvin. The lawyer for Floyd's family, Lee Merritt, said on Friday the charge was "deflating" and "while the appropriate charge is murder," they believe every officer involved should've been charged too.
