Durisdeer Village and Roman Fortlet

Durisdeer Village Durisdeer Parish Church (1720): A peaceful country kirk with the spectacular Queensberry Marbles inside – elaborate marble monuments to the Dukes of Queensberry. Village Charm: Wander among stone cottages and enjoy views of the Lowther Hills. The village was once part of the Drumlanrig Castle estate. Historic Roads: The old Roman and medieval routes through Enterkin Pass begin here – once vital paths across the hills. Roman Fortlet Just west of the village, look for the grassy earthworks of a Roman fortlet, built to guard the Dalveen Pass route. Dating to the Antonine period (2nd century AD), it once housed a small garrison keeping watch over movement through the hills.
