Ethiopian Epiphany, also known as Timkat, is a religious and cultural holiday celebrated by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church on January 19th. It marks the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River and is one of the most important holidays in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The celebration begins the night before with a procession called "Ketera," where the Tabot, a replica of the Ark of the Covenant, is taken from the church and carried through the streets to be blessed by the priests. The following day, a blessing of the water ceremony is held, called "Timket," where priests bless the water and the faithful immerse themselves in the water to symbolize the baptism of Jesus. Along with religious ceremonies, there are also cultural traditions associated with Timket, such as traditional dances and feasts.
