Over its nearly 3 decades on television, South Park has portrayed the police in MANY different ways. From the bumbling antics of Officer Barbrady, to the overly serious antics of Sergeant Yates, the countless law enforcement agencies parodied in between, and even Cartman demanding that his authoritah be respected, the show has never shied away from lambasting and satirizing the cops. And over the years, as the landscape of TV and the culture surrounding it has shifted, so have the ways South Park has portrayed its police presence. But as a show that itself has very little respect for authoritah, I think South Park’s various portrayals of law enforcement begs one important question.
