MagsBC presents a Magazines West session: "Gold-Star HR Management for Small Magazines” A presentation for supervisors managing staff, interns and volunteers by Jenn Farrell, freelance writer, editor, creative writing and fitness instructor, and facilitator Filmed at UBC Robson Square, Vancouver, BC on Nov. 4/16 as part of the MagsWest 2016 conference. Farrell talks about attracting, keeping, and managing people at your magazine, whether short or long-term staff, paid or unpaid interns or practicum students, or volunteers. In her talk, Farrell also covers each point of the GIVERS: Making Time guidelines from the UK study by Join In on sports volunteering as it applies to publishing and HR in general. (GIVERS: Growth, Impact, Voice, Experience, Recognition, Social.) The principles and practices outlined are applicable to many types and sizes of organizations and businesses.
