This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid car. We have the top trim Toyota Prius Prime XSE Premium model for $49,965 CAD/$39,170 USD. In Canada the Toyota Prius Prime qualifies for the Federal EV rebate of $5,000 and incentives in participating provinces. It does not qualify for a tax credit in the US. The Toyota Prius Prime has a 2L 4-cylinder matched to an e-CVT with a combined 220 horsepower. It has a 13.6 kWh battery and up to 72 km/44 miles of range on the base model and the XSE and XSE Premium models 64 km/39 miles. This is a FWD only model. Standard features of the Toyota Prius Prime include, a 7” driver display, an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, cloth upholstery, manual heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 17” wheels and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. In the US, heated from seats are standard one up from the base model. Available features of the Toyota Prius Prime include the larger 12.3” touchscreen, a 360-camera, JBL sound system, wireless charger, a power driver’s seat, driver seat memory, ventilated front seats, Softex upholstery, a fixed glass roof with two sunshades, heated rear seats, a power rear door and 19” wheels. Depending on the wheels you choose the combined fuel economy is between 1.8Le to 2.1Le/100 km, that’s 127 MPGe to 114 MPGe. When the battery is depleted, the base trim with the 17” wheels get a combined 4.5L/100 km and the higher trims with the 19” wheels 4.9L/100 km combined That’s 52 or 48 MPG combined. The Toyota Prius Prime has a 3.5 kW onboard charger and with a Level 1 charger it will take about 11 hours to charge your vehicle and with a Level 2 charger 4 hours.
