Since the utterly abominable Resident Evil 6, Capcom have brought their A game in order to rescue the Resident Evil franchise with remakes and first person horror. Every mainline game since has been easily a 9 out of 10. However, there was an itch to scratch for longtime fans of the series, and that was properly catching up with established protagonists and some kind of link to where it all began. Requiem is proof that listening to your audience is a good thing. You start the game as Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa from Outbreak. She is an FBI agent charged with facing her fears in investigating a murder in a hotel where her mother was slaughtered - her segments play like RE7. Her story is one filled with high tension and suspense, stealth and panic-driven horror as you are pursued by an enormous monster called "the Girl". Returning is the now older RE2 legend that is Leon Kennedy, bringing action and firepower as well as cringeworthy one liners (I wouldn't have it any other way)... and he must face his past, full of regret that he couldn't save more people in the Raccoon City incident. It's also a race against time, with survivors of the original incident becoming affected by a dormant version of the T Virus that has awakened nigh on 20 years later. His sections are action packed as you mow through hordes of virus monsters, much the same as the remake trilogy. The characters gameplay sections alternate through the campaign, which is roughly 10-12 hours on first run. It is genuinely the best parts of any resident evil since 2017 combined in one glorious package. The game suggests and is built around 1st person sections for Grace, and 3rd person for Leon - but is adaptable for those who dislike either. This is a welcome touch for those who were divided by 7 and Village. I didn't find many issues with pacing or replayability - I've done 4 runs of the game at the time of writing. What is disappointing is that an additional mode like The Mercenaries isn't present for launch, and seems that this could have quite easily been included for launch (There is additional content coming, and in the era of post game DLC then I suppose its just the norm now) - unlockables are there but not so many that I'd run it again so soon. I have been absorbed by RE9 in the short time I've spent with it, and it was nice living inside a fresh RE outing rather than a remake. With that said, the return to Raccoon City was full of glorious "moments" and it was a joy to tread the old ground as well as the new - and not once did it feel like cheap nostalgia. #residentevil #residentevilrequiem #capcom #PS5 #twitch #gameplay #nukeboxharris #fullplaythrough Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at / nukeboxharris
