"Where the rivers end" I remember living on the western coast of France I was only seventeen when a girl first took my heart and though I've seen the rivers they never looked as good as you and though I've seen the rivers they never looked as good as you sometimes the lights would shine down sometimes the world was black and white sometimes the lights would shine down sometimes the world was black and white and though I've seen the rivers they never looked as good as you and though I've seen the rivers all they ever do is remind me of you you know I could have loved you you know I once believed in you you know I could have loved you you know I once believed in you and though I've seen the rivers they never looked as good as you and though I've seen the rivers they never looked as good as you Ποιοι είναι όμως οι ποταμοί; Ο Phil Shoenfelt απαντά στο ερώτημα που του έθεσα, στην προσπάθειά μου να φτιάξω ένα σωστό βίντεο... " Hi Giorgos. A lot of Nikki's lyrics defy logic and are often quite surreal and/or poetic. I know this from writing together with him the songs on Golden vanity, where we would each randomly throw out lyrics and images that were the opposite of logical. In some ways, the process was like Dada or automatic writing, where the "frisson" comes from the juxtaposition of the most unlikely images. To quote Lautreamont: “As beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table." This, as you know very well, being the essence of surrealism. I would interpret these specific lines of Nikki's as meaning the image of great flowing rivers as the Eternal River of Life that is forever renewing itself; a process of life, death and rebirth that is without end, both in this world and in any other worlds that exist in this dimension or another. And comparing the beauty and majesty of these metaphysical rivers with a specific woman whose beauty he is swept away by. This is how I interpret them anyway. And anyway, the image of the river frequently appears in Nikki's songs. One of my faves is "Russian River" frtom the album Treasure Island and which features on the soundtrack of the great film from 2004 "Honey, Baby" by the Finnish director Mika Kaurismaki: https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mika_Ka..." Αυτά μου έγραψε ο Phil και βέβαια με βοήθησαν πολύ για να καταλάβω το πνεύμα αυτού του αξιολάτρευτου ανθρώπου. *Disclaimer: All audio and visual parts in this video are the sole property of their respective owners.
