The prototype aircraft SJ-100 completed its first flight with domestically produced PD-8 engines. The flight took place on March 17, 2025, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and marked the beginning of flight tests for the PD-8 as part of the Superjet program. ✈️ The flight was carried out by a crew consisting of test pilots Dmitry Demenev, Igor Grevtsev, and flight operator Maxim Gryukanov. The aircraft remained airborne for about 40 minutes, reaching a speed of 500 km/h and an altitude of up to 3,000 meters. After landing, the crew commander reported that the flight mission was fully completed. The power plant with PD-8 engines demonstrated stable performance, and the flight included an assessment of the engines’ gas-dynamic stability under both steady and variable conditions. "The first flight of the Superjet with the PD-8 engines, on one hand, concludes a significant and complex effort carried out together with colleagues from UEC (United Engine Corporation), and on the other hand, it marks the beginning of an important new phase of engine testing within the aircraft. The flight tests of the PD-8 engines on the Superjet are beginning on a serially produced aircraft with imported systems since the level of ‘novelty’ in testing such critical components as an engine must be increased gradually. This approach will allow us to maintain the necessary certification pace while also refining technical solutions for the potential re-engining of the current Superjet fleet," said Vadim Badeha, CEO of UAC (United Aircraft Corporation).
