Hey guys! I know it’s been quite some time but we are back. And yes, we are back just in time to cover the newly discovered human species. So, in December 2024, researchers made a groundbreaking discovery that has reshaped our understanding of human evolution.Professor Christopher Bae fromthe University of Hawaii says he may have found a new human species called Homo juluensis, julu which translates to big head. The unearthed evidence of this previously unknown human species, shows us that they inhabited eastern Asia around 300,000 years ago. This new species challenges the traditional view of human evolution, providing evidence of a more intricate network of human species coexisting and potentially interbreeding. Homo juluensis lived in the regions of present-day southern China and Laos, spanning from 300,000 years ago, hunted wild horses in small groups, and made stone tools and possibly processed animal hides for survival before disappearing around 50,000 years ago. The authors suggest that at least four hominin species — Homo floresiensis, Homo luzonensis, Homo longi, and the newly-established Homo juluensis were present in eastern Asia during the Late Quaternary period. The discovery of Homo juluensis adds complexity to the idea that multiple human species could have coexisted, possibly sharing traits and knowledge. The fossils that led to this discovery were named the Xujiayao and Xuchang fossilsafter the sites they were discovered from among others. The size of the brain of Homo Juluensis, according to Professor Bae was about 1700 cubic centimetres, which means that theyhad a larger braincase than many other contemporaneous species, including early Homo sapiens. This distinctive feature has led some researchers to speculate that they may have developed advanced cognitive skills. #ancienthumans #homojuluensis #earlyhumans
