Liver Tumor? Surgery or Ablation — What’s the Difference? 🩺🧬 When treating liver tumors, two major approaches are often considered: liver resection and tumor ablation. Both aim to eliminate cancer while preserving as much healthy liver as possible, but the methods differ: 🔹 Liver Resection (Hepatectomy): The surgeon removes the portion of the liver containing the tumor. If the remaining liver is healthy, it has an amazing ability to regenerate. Resection is often the gold standard for long-term survival when the tumor is operable and liver function is good. 🔹 Liver Ablation: Instead of removing the tumor, doctors destroy it in place using heat (radiofrequency or microwave ablation), extreme cold (cryoablation), or chemicals (ethanol injection). This is minimally invasive, done through needles or probes, and is best suited for small tumors or patients who cannot undergo major surgery. Key difference: Resection removes the cancer physically, while ablation destroys it locally. The choice depends on tumor size, location, number of tumors, and overall liver health. 👉 In selected patients, both approaches can extend survival and improve quality of life. The right option is always tailored to the individual. #LiverCancer #CancerTreatment #LiverSurgery #LiverAblation #Oncology #Hepatology #HepatobiliarySurgery #CancerAwareness [liver tumor surgery, liver tumor ablation, liver resection vs ablation, hepatectomy liver cancer, liver regeneration surgery, minimally invasive liver ablation, radiofrequency ablation liver, microwave ablation liver, cryoablation liver cancer, ethanol injection ablation, small liver tumor treatment, operable liver cancer, inoperable liver tumor options, liver function and surgery, localized liver cancer therapy, liver cancer survival treatment, hepatic surgery oncology, hepatobiliary cancer care, liver tumor treatment choices, ablation vs surgery liver cancer]
