In this video we bring to you a Charming California cottage built from three recycled shipping containers, the first of its kind in San Diego County. The McConkey Residence, designed by OBR Architecture, was first shipping container home in San Diego County. The home it’s a hybrid of 3 recycled 20 foot shipping containers and stick frame structure forming 800 square feet of living space. McConkey Residence has high as 13 feet between the containers to make the small space feel larger and to allow for natural cooling. Because the area is prone to wildfires, the windows and roof incorporate flame-retardant materials in the event of wildfires. In addition, the original container cargo doors were left in place and act as moveable external shading for aluminum-framed dual-paned windows when the family is using the house; when they’re away, the doors can be closed to help secure it and protect against possible bushfire.
