It protects the edge of your skirt from getting dirty and weighs down the hem of super light and airy fabrics. Bonus-it only takes 1/2 inch of fashion fabric to do a faced hem. In this video, we explore facings: why Victorians used them, why we should as well, what to use for facing material, and how to put them in. We start of talking about facings-what they are and when to use them-then we move into looking at an original 1850s dress with a facing.
