Thurber’s Columbus

James Thurber (1894–1961), who grew up in Columbus, was one of the foremost American humorists of the 20th century, best-known as the author of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” as well as numerous cover cartoons for The New Yorker magazine. This year (2019) marks the Year of Thurber, a year-long community-wide celebration in honor of Thurber’s 125th birthday and the 35th anniversary of the Thurber House. As part of this celebration, OSU’s Thompson Library recently showcased many of Thurber’s works located in their archives.
