In this video, we explore the complete workflow for designing and verifying a cantilevered steel truss anchored to a precast concrete column. The example demonstrates how a global truss model based on axial force transfer can be combined with detailed connection analysis and reinforced concrete verification using IDEA StatiCa tools. We start with the global truss analysis, where bending is intentionally converted into axial forces to create a clear and efficient load path. The workflow then continues with connection design in IDEA StatiCa Connection, highlighting the importance of realistic boundary conditions, eccentricities, and secondary bending effects due to bolt-group misalignment. The final step closes the design loop using IDEA StatiCa 3D Detail (CSFM), in which reinforcement interaction and force redistribution within the concrete column are evaluated. This allows engineers to capture the true composite behavior of anchors, concrete, and reinforcement, avoiding overly conservative assumptions typical of plain-concrete anchorage checks. The video also discusses linear buckling behavior with contact, explaining why frictionless contacts may lead to unrealistic eigenmodes in linear buckling analysis. This workflow demonstrates how global analysis, connection mechanics, and reinforced concrete verification must work together to achieve a physically consistent structural design. Topics covered: • Truss structural systems and axial force idealization • Global FEM analysis and load path interpretation • Checkbot workflow for truss node preparation • Connection design with eccentric force transfer • Linear buckling analysis and contact behavior • Anchoring design and reinforcement interaction • CSFM modeling of reinforced concrete discontinuity regions Software used: • Midas Civil – global structural analysis • IDEA StatiCa Connection – steel connection verification • IDEA StatiCa Detail (CSFM) – reinforced concrete verification #StructuralEngineering #SteelStructures #TrussStructures #AnchoringDesign #IDEAStatiCa #FiniteElementAnalysis #ConnectionDesign #ReinforcedConcrete #EngineeringMechanics #BucklingAnalysis #CivilEngineering #StructuralDesign #FEM #Eurocode #EngineeringEducation Link on the article and sources: https://www.ideastatica.com/support-center...
