They were soon replaced by the M1941 Haversack and Knapsack. This was a better design compared to the M1912 and were issued in large numbers from the campaign on Guadalcanal and throughout. Several small improvements were made throughout the course of the war. The Marines DQP did manufacture them, but they were immediately contracted out to meet the intense demands. The Boyt company manufactured Knapsacks during the war to the Marines.
