[ Making a Bell that Will Ring for Thousands of Years! (천년을 울리는 종을 만들다!) ] Seongjongsa, established in 1952, is Korea's largest Buddhist temple bell foundry. It is owned by Mr. Won Gwang-sik, Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 112, and his son Mr. Won Cheon-su. This is where Korea's temple bell production technology is preserved and continued. Mr. Won Gwang-sik was born in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do Province, and he learned the craft from his grandfather and his third cousin since he was 17 years old. Having been a bell maker all his life, he now manages Seongjongsa with his son. Despite having lost one eye when molten metal exploded as he poured it into a cast, he continues to work hard to recreate the haunting sounds of the bells made by old masters. His son, who has the utmost respect for his father, has been helping him for 16 years.
